The plant is using SIAPE–CHEMIEBAU-PRAYON technology. Following various improvements the capacity now, depending on the type of the raw material, ranges from 220 to 300 MTPD P2O5.

The raw materials for the production of phosphoric acid (H3PO4) are phosphate rock and sulphuric acid. Phosphate rock is an ore existing in big deposits in countries like Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Syria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan etc.

The production of phosphoric acid is taking place in the following steps:

  • Phosphate rock grinding
  • Ground phosphate rock attack by sulphuric acid. The main reaction products are phosphoric acid (H3PO4) and gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O)
  • Filtration of the slurry for gypsum removal and phosphoric acid separation. The phosphoric acid is produced as weak acid containing 28% w/w P2O5.
  • Waste gas cleaning for fluorine removal by sea water scrubbers
